Ratchaprasong traders join police in fight against crime

After the extended redshirt protest in 2010, businesses in Bangkok's Ratchaprasong area have decided to link up their security cameras to the police CCTV network in order to further protect themselves and prevent crime in the area.

Police Maj-General Anan Srihirun, deputy commander of the Metropolitan Police Bureau, said Wednesday that private businesses in the area had linked up some 1,300 of their security cameras to the police CCTV network. Many of these cameras are wireless and can be moved to cover a wider area.
“During the redshirt protest in 2010, we connected the traders’ security system directly to the command centre of the Metropolitan Police Bureau to monitor the area and exchange information about criminals entering the area to stop them from causing problems,” Anan said.
