9 to 11 'literally'

Dr Than Htut Aung's partner in Eleven Media is Dr Thien Myint.

While Than Htut Aung turned his back on the medical profession to become a full-fledged editor and publisher, Dr Thien Myint still clings to his passion for medical service.
He runs a clinic at night – six days a week – after finishing his work at Eleven Media. He treats 50-60 patients – free of charge for the less fortunate – from 8pm often up to 11pm.
“I like it,” he said with a quiet smile. Although he is probably too humble to mention it, his assistants say the doctor also goes back, after the clinic closes, to Eleven Media’s offices to check the editorial pages before they go to print.
Than Htut Aung said he invited Thien Myint to become a partner within two weeks of the launch of Eleven Media, as Than Htut Aung was using the computer and writing shop run by Thien Myint.
“He is very friendly to everybody, while I’m the tough guy,” says Than Htut Aung.
Dr Than Htut Aung himself graduated with an MBBS from the Institute of Medicine (Yangon) in 1987. After completing his internship at Mandalay General Hospital in 1988, he set up a private clinic for a few months. Although he tried to study abroad at that time, he could not get a passport.
Medicine is the most popular degree among Myanmar universities as political studies are banned.
