Tul Sittisomwong, coordinator of the Network of Citizen Volunteers to Protect the Land, together with about 20 representatives of the multicoloured group submitted a letter to National Police chief Pol General Priewpan Damapong via his secretary Pol Maj-General Piya Tavichai, seeking clarification of police policy towards protesters.
The move came after Priewpan on Friday issued an order to abruptly transfer Metropolitan Police chief Pol Lt-General Winai Thongsong to an inactive post at Royal Thai Police headquarters for 30 days. Pol Maj-General Kamronwit Thoopkrachang, who earlier worked as an acting chief of Provincial Police Region 1, is currently serving as acting Metropolitan Police commissioner.
Last week, antigovernment protesters led by yellow shirts blocked routes of lawmakers to the Parliament, resulting in the abrupt cancellation of the House’s deliberation of the charter review.
Dr Tul said the group also called on the police and related authorities to avoid double standards and to not use force in handling the anti-reconciliation bill protesters. He explained that the multicoloured supporters staged a peaceful rally without weapons.
The group threatened to file a complaint with the Office of the National Anti-Corruption Commission if the police use force against demonstrators in the future.
In addition, the group is also giving moral support to Metropolitan Police deputy chief Pol Maj-General Wichai Sangprapai, who has been shifted to an inactive post for 30 days at Royal Thai Police headquarters following the protest.
