Security is tightened in front of the Parliament on Wednesday as pro-government protesters, known as red shirts, are scheduled to gather to seek impeachment of the Constitution Court’s judges.
Police have concrete barriers erected around routes to the Parliament, such as at Karn Ruen, Pichai intersections, including the intersection between Ratchavithi Road and Rama 5 roads.
National police Chief Pol Gen Priewpan Damapong was seen surveying the area in the afternoon.
Priewpan believed there would be no possibility that the red and anti-government protesters, known as yellow shirts, may confront each other. However he said police have prepared and trained for any unpredictable situation.
Meanwhile acting metropolitan police commissioner Pol Maj Gen Karmronwit Thupkrachang said that his policy is to avoid the clash and willing to treat every side the same policy.
However, he expected there would be no violence because there would be no consideration of the reconciliation bill in the session tommorow.
The red-shirt rally is scheduled to hand in the signatures of Pheu Thai MPs and red-shirts to House Speaker Somsak Kiartsuranund at 1pm to demand the impeachment of the Constitution Court judges. The reds want to remove the judges who issued an injunction on the parliamentary vote for the charter change.
