HBO apologizes for Bush beheading
Los Angeles - US cable channel HBO has apologized to former president George W Bush after a gory scene in its hit drama Game of Thrones featured his head paraded on top of a pole.
The gruesome image shows Bush's face from a side angle with most of his head obscured by an unruly wig. The scene actually appeared in the finale of the series' first season last year, but only came to light on the show's recently released DVD.
Producers David Benioff and DB Weiss explained that the controversial image was not a political statement but a simple gaffe caused because the props department rented heads in bulk for the scene.
"We meant no disrespect to the former president and apologize if anything we said or did suggested otherwise," said the producers.
HBO formally apologized for the mistake, calling it "unacceptable, disrespectful and in very bad taste," and promising that the image would be removed from future DVD editions.//DPA
