Court hearing set for Aug 24 on Suphachai's trial

The Supreme Court's Election Cases Division will on August 24 convene the first hearing on campaign violations involving former deputy agriculture minister Suphachai Phosu in 2009.

The Supreme Court’s Election Cases Division will on August 24 convene the first hearing on campaign violations involving former deputy agriculture minister Suphachai Phosu in 2009.
The hearing date was set yesterday after the high court ruled to launch the judicial review into the case.
The prosecutors contend that Suphachai abused his office and violated electoral rules by promising funds and pay hike to participants of a government-training programme in exchange for their by-election votes for Bhum Jai Thai candidates in Nakhon Phanom.
The nine-judge panel, including the high court division chairman Chaist Trachutham, will preside over the case.
If Supachai is found guilty, his individual conviction could trigger a separate review leading to punishment by party disbandment.
