Teachers transferred home

Some 10,174 of the 21,000 teachers under the Office of Basic Education Commission (Obec) who applied last December to join the Education Ministry's project to transfer teachers back to their hometowns would be moved, Obec chief Chinnapat Bhumirat said yes

Describing it as the largestever batch of teacher transfers, Chinnapat said that usually 19 per cent of the transfer applications were approved each year. He admitted this might contribute to a shortage of teachers at some schools.
Obec would aid schools suffering shortages of at least 30 per cent by allocating funds to them to hire teaching employees. It would also send teachers, including those recruited to replace retirees, to ensure an appropriate teacherstudent ratio at affected schools. All these moves should be completed before the first semester of the next academic year, Chinnapat added.
