Batman sequel captures 160 million dollars in debut weekend

New York - Batman sequel The Dark Knight Rises had ticket sales of 160 million dollars in its opening Friday-Sunday weekend, which was marred by a shooting spree during a midnight debut screening in Colorado.

The film easily topped the North American box-office rankings for the three-day period, according to preliminary studio estimates reported Sunday by the Los Angeles Times.
Security at many cinemas was heightened after the shooting early Friday in Aurora, Colorado, where 12 people were slain. The suspected gunman, James Holmes, was arrested at the scene and is expected to make a first appearance Monday in court.//DPA
