All 32 teams joined the semi-finals of the English-language Asean Quiz and Asean Smart Teens, a cultural performing arts competition inspired by this project’s slogan, “Asean: One Vision, One Identity, One Community”.
After a day-long battle, the four Asean Quiz finalists were Benchamarachuthit School in Chanthaburi, Uttaradit School, Mahavajiravudh Songkhla School and Demonstration School of Khon Kaen University.
The three finalists of Asean Smart Teens were Sukhothai College of Dramatic Arts performing “Leela Nattakum Num Su Asean”, Thairaith Wittaya 12 School (Baan Eak) Chiang Mai performing “Withee Asean” and Praphatsornrangsit School Phatthalung performing “Pone Su Asean”.
Both competitions are part of “Four Regions and Bangkok Asean Expo”, aimed at building awareness of the Asean Economic Community, which comes into effect in 2015.
The project is organised by the Education Ministry, the Commerce Ministry’s Department of Trade Negotiations and NJ Magazine (Nation Junior), part of Nation Multimedia Group.
The winners of both events will visit Jakarta to see the Asean Secretariat’s office and also the World Heritage Site of Borobudur. Second-place teams will visit Myanmar and third-place teams Vietnam. All of these teams will also receive scholarships.
The grand final of both competitions will be held during the sixth Asean Expo at the Imperial Queen’s Park Hotel in Bangkok on September 7.
