Obama loses Indiana, projections show
Washington - Republican challenger Mitt Romney was projected the winner of the presidential election in Indiana Tuesday, handing US President Barack Obama a loss in the traditionally Republican state he had won in 2008.
Broadcaster CNN projected Romney would carry the state based on a combination of exit polls and early results.
Obama had been the first Democrat to carry the state since 1964 when he made history there in 2008, but had not been expected to do so again.//DPA

Washington - With a winner projected in 18 of 50 US states and the District of Columbia, the following is a tally of the electoral votes won thus far in the presidential election:
Barack Obama: 64 electoral votes
Mitt Romney: 82 electoral votes
Needed to win: 270 of 538 electoral votes
The number of state results not yet projected by at least one television network is 33.
