Sondhi faces prosecution over storming of Govt

Public prosecutors have decided to indict Sondhi Limthongkul and 20 other People's Alliance for Democracy leaders for laying siege to Parliament and storming into Government House in 2008.

Prayuth por Sattayarat, Special Attorney on Criminal Litigation said public prosecutors would file indictments today against Sondhi and PAD leaders for surrounding Parliament on October 5-7 in 2008 and a case that Sondhi and six others stormed into Government House from August 26-31 in 2008.

Prosecutors will also indict Sondhi for allegedly defaming ex-PM Thaksin Shinawatra. Sondhi’s lawyer has informed prosecutors he will appear at the court today.

Other PAD leaders who fail to show up at the court without giving reasons would face arrest warrants, Prayuth said, adding that they would be allowed to post bail at Bt90,000-100,000 each.

In another case in which Sondhi allegedly slandered Bhum Jai Thai Party core leader Newin Chidchob, prosecutors have yet to decide on an indictment because they had decided to drop the case against Sondhi’s son, who was one of the suspects. They will have to wait to see if police agree with that move.

Prosecutors will decide on December 20 whether to file indictments in a case that Sondhi and 114 PAD members surrounded Suvarnabhumi Airport and Don Mueang Airports in 2008 and a treason case against nine PAD leaders.
