Potchongwat Chuenta said the accommodation arranged by the firm was several kilometres from the areas where they picked fruit under the employment contract, making it impossible for them to reach the contract’s minimum amount of collected fruit.
“We asked the firm to move us, but it refused,” he said. Potchongwat is among 60 Thais working as fruit pickers in Sweden between July 17 and September 19.
“The firm did not pay us while we were there. It only paid after we returned,” he said. He said the firm failed to honour the contract signed with the workers.
A ministry official met the workers and ordered a probe into the complaint.
