Google sells Motorola unit for 2.35 billion dollars
San Francisco - Google is selling a unit of Motorola Mobility for 2.35 billion dollars to the ARRIS Group, the companies announced Wednesday.
The deal involves the Motorola unit that makes cable television settop boxes which Google acquired as part of its 12.5 billion dollars deal for Motorola Mobility in May.
Google said that its main motivation in that deal was the acquisition of Motorola's patent portfolio in addition to its smartphone design and manufacturing business.
Under terms of the deal, Google will receive 2.05 billion dollars in cash and get about 300 million dollars of newly issued Arris shares, giving it about a 15.7 per cent stake in the company.//DPA
