Army to promote NCOs to commissioned officer grade

The Defence Ministry is to promote about 9,000 noncommissioned soldiers to commissioned officers next year.
The eligible soldiers must be at least 55 years old, have good work records and have never caused any damage to the reputation of the ministry and the armed forces. They must also be ranked senior sergeant or higher.
“The promotion is in line with the Defence Minister ACM Sukampol Suwannathat’s policy to boost the morale of junior soldiers who will soon reach their mandatory retirement age,” the ministry’s spokesman Colonel Tanatip Sawangsaeng said yesterday.
He said the budget for the promotion would come from the armed forces. “We have not requested any extra budget from the government,” he added.
