The online platform now has about one-fifth as many users as the social networking website Facebook and is growing at a similar pace, LinkedIn said. It reached the 10- million user mark only eight months ago.
LinkedIn specializes in professional workers who post information about themselves, their jobs and other information such as their resumes, promotions and photos. It's often used by people looking for a job.
The website has long had a high number of US-based members, but most of its users - 64 per cent - are now outside the US. India, Brazil and Canada are the countries with the most members after the US.
Job offers and professional networking along with fee-based special services have become the most important features of the website. Another function called endorsements allows members to confirm and support the abilities they list. More services are planned.//DPA
