Two attackers on a motorcycle fired M79 grenade onto Nujmudeen’s house in Rangae district about ten minutes after midnight.
The grenade missed the target and fell into an adjacent house, injuring Sulaiman Samae, 33, the owner of the house. Nujmudeen was not in his house at the time of the attack following concerns for his safety after the first attack.
Nuruda, Sulaiman’s wife, told police that her husband, their child and herself were sleeping in the house when she heard a boom in the backyard. She heard her husband cry out in pain and found that shrapnel had hit his right arm.
Police said the shrapnel from the explosive penetrated through the roof and hit Sulaiman.
The first attack on Monday morning caused no injuries, but there was property damage. Nujmudeen is a key government adviser on security measures in the deep South.
The fourtime MP told police after the first attack that that insurgents opposed to the ongoing peace dialogue between Thai authorities and insurgents representatives were likely behind the M79 grenade attack.
Nujmudeen's home was subject to a similar M79 grenade attack in March last year, but police have made little progress on that case.
