Elephant killed in Phetchaburi

Another wild elephant has been slaughtered in Phetchaburi's Kaeng Krachan National Park, apparently by poachers after its ivory, National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation Department deputy chief Theerapat Prayurasiddhi said Tuesday.

Theerapat said that according to Kaeng Krachan National Park chief Chaiwat Limlikhitaksorn’s initial report, the headless carcass of a male elephant was found in Ban Pa Teng Forest. Theerapat said he would inspect the area later Tuesday with a team led by assistant National Police chief Jaramporn Suramanee and a veterinary team. The carcass would be autopsied in an attempt to find trace evidence that could lead to the arrest of the poachers, Theerapat said.
The carcass was discovered near the site where the carcass of a female elephant was found on March 8. It is suspected that poachers killed it in order to take its baby.
