PM allowed by law to campaign for others

The law allows Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra to campaign for a candidate from her party, though she cannot use a government vehicle or other official tools while campaigning, a senior Election Commission official said.

Puchong Nutrawong, EC secretary-general, said Wednesday that the agency normally urged both permanent officials and political appointees not to voice their bias in the run-up to an election.
A by-election is scheduled for April 21 in Chiang Mai’s Constituency 3 to fill the MP seat left vacant by Pheu Thai MP Kasem Nimmonrat’s resignation. The PM’s older sister Yaowapa Wongsawat is one of the three candidates contesting for the seat.
