Policeman accused of rape still at large

Metropolitan Police chief Khamronwit Thoopkrajang yesterday transferred a police officer accused of raping a Laotian woman to an inactive post pending a probe, which could result in his dismissal.

The accused, Pol Sub-Lieutenant Thatree Seubsaman of Thong Lor Police Station, is still at large after allegedly committing the crime while sidelining as a taxi driver. Through the media, Khamronwit urged Thatree to surrender and face legal action, which he said would be conducted fairly according to the evidence.
Khamronwit said he wanted the fact-finding panel working on the case to complete its task in three days, but added that there were three problems that could make its task difficult. First, the results of a doctor’s examination would take up to seven days. Second, Samut Prakan police have yet to locate a man who was reportedly with the victim at the time. And third, the victim has not yet been able to confirm the location of the rape scene.
Khamronwit said Thatree’s supervisor affirmed that the police officer had no criminal priors and was just trying to make a decent living outside his civil-service duties.
Thatree was earlier accused of picking up the Laotian couple and telling the male passenger to get out midway to their destination, before taking the female to an apartment, where he allegedly handcuffed and raped her.
