Reserve price for TV licence bids to be kept low 'to encourage small players'

Due to various highcost requirements, the minimum bids for the 24 commercial digital terrestrial TV licences might be kept low to give a chance to more new, small companies to enter the broadcasting business.

“The ‘must carry’ rule is one of those key factors,” Thawatchai Jittrapanun, chairman of the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) committee for the TV broadcasting competition said Thursday.
An advisory team led by lecturers from Chulalongkorn University’s Economics Faculty, that is working on the reserve price, has decided to make it easier for many more challengers to join the bidding.
