More Laotian staff sought for labour offices

Thailand has called for more Laotian staff at immigration and labour offices to cope with a large number of Lao workers seeking employment here, Labour Minister Phadermchai Sasomsap said Monday.

The move was one of many agreements backed by officials from both countries at a second joint Cabinet retreat held on Sunday.
Some 66,000 Laotians are registered to work in Thailand, but only 2,300 have got documents to verify this. Phadermchai expressed fear that the slow progress with documents may drag out past a deadline for foreign workers to register here.
