Court awaiting response from parliamentary speakers, senators

The Constitutional Court today (Tuesday) further delayed its deliberation on four petitions over amendment to Article 68 of the charter.

Pimol Thampithakpong, chief spokesman of the court, said the court decided to wait for written explanations from the House speaker, Senate speaker and two senators, who were accused in the petitions of violating Article 68.

Pimol said House Speaker Somsak Kiartsuranon and Senate Speaker Nikom Wairatphanich had yet to submit their statements to defend themselves in a petition filed by former senator Waring Thiamcharas.

Si Sa Ket Senator Jittipoj Wiriyaroj and Buri Ram Senator Thaweesak Kidbanjong were also yet to submit explanations about the petition by Senator Somjet Boonthanom, Pimol said.

The court had yet to consider whether to accept petitions by the People’s Alliance for Democracy and the Democrat Party against the bid to amend Article 68, Pimol said.

The court will skip its weekly meeting tomorrow (Wednesday June 5) as all the cases require defendants to submit more evidence, the office announced.
