VAT fraud uncovered

Finance Minister Kittiratt Na-Ranong Friday said his ministry had found a group of more than 30 people jointly suspected of involvement in VAT fraud, which cost the state about Bt2.6 billion.

He said the ministry’s secret examination found that this group of people did not run any business but unlawfully filed value-added-tax claims with the Excise Department. He added that state officials were also allegedly found involved in the case.
Kittiratt appointed deputy permanent secretary Rangsan Sriworasat to place charges.
