A combined security force had a gunfight yesterday with suspected insurgents in Tambon Barahoh in Pattani's Muang district, leading to the death of one suspect and the arrest of another.
After a tip-off that suspected insurgents had laid low in Ban Baeroh Ku-ing Moo 3, a 60-strong team of officials surrounded the area. The gunfight erupted when seven to eight alleged insurgents tried to escape. After they retreated, officials found the body of one suspect – identified as Ameen Dareng, 31 – in the back of a rubber plantation with a loaded 11mm pistol nearby.
Officials also apprehended a suspect – identified as Sakareeya Tohtayong, 26 , wanted for reported involvement in a drive-by shooting that killed six civilians in Muang Pattani on May 1.
