'Reading Princess' project to be launched at 3,000 schools in July

The "Read Thailand: Thai Children Read in Honour of the Reading Princess" project will kick off on July 1.

With more than 3,000 schools participating, the project looks set to provide inspirations for more than 150,000 children.
The “Reading Princess” refers to HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn, who will turn 60 in 2015.
Launched through the collaboration of TK Park, the Education Ministry, and the Thailand Health Promotion Foundation, the project seeks to promote reading among Pathom 5 students by organising a contest.
Dr Sirikorn Maneerin, who chairs a TK Park subcommittee, said participating schools would hold various types of activities to encourage their students to read.
“The most outstanding ones will receive awards,” she said.
There will be three categories in the contest: one for small schools, or those having fewer than 150 students each; medium-sized schools, or those having between 150 and 300 students each; and large schools, those with more than 300 students each.
“The top best school in each category will receive a trophy from HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn and educational trips to foreign countries,” Sirikorn said.
The second best school in each category will receive a trophy from Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra, while the best school will receive a trophy from the education minister.
“Winning schools will also receive certificates
of honour and cash rewards,” Sirikorn said.
