John Paul II and John XXIII to be declared saints

Vatican City - John XXIII and John Paul II will be declared saints, the Vatican announced on Friday.

Pope Francis signed a decree attributing a second miracle to John Paul II, thus clearing the last hurdle for the Polish-born Karol Wojtyla, who led the Roman Catholic Church from 1978 to 2005, to be canonized, a statement said.

John XXIII, who served 1958 to 1963, and John Paul II will be declared saints in an upcoming consistory of cardinals, the Vatican said. No date was set for the meeting.//DPA
