TJA praises The Nation's 'professional responsibility'

The Nation newspaper has shown professional responsibility with its prompt action, said Banyong Suwanpong, ethics member of Thai Journalists Association, in a posting on his Facebook page.

Below is the excerpt of the posting (posted 16 hours ago) on the journalist’s Facebook wall.

“Reference: The Nation newspaper’s article that contained an inaccuracy
“The Nation published "Many wonder about Yingluck’s icecream gang and its power" on July 6, 2013, which contained an inaccuracy. When the inaccuracy, which might have caused damage to the persons mentioned, was spotted, The Nation’s Editorial Team published an apology to the prime minister and the persons affected on July 7. On July 8, it issued a statement and directly expressed apologies and remorse to those affected through the prime minister’s secretary.
“The Nation admitted the mistake and promptly corrected it, in accordance with the Code of Ethics (BE2008), Item 12, which states that journalists must admit mistakes and correct them promptly. The Nation also subjected the responsible editorial staff to penalties, aside from the apologies to the persons directly and indirectly affected.
“In my view, The Nation has complied with its professional responsibility."
