Royal Turf Club confirms rallies on its grounds prohibited

Chamlong Boongrapue, assistant secretary-general of the Royal Turf Club of Thailand Under Royal Patronage, issued a letter to the club's honorary secretary-general stating that using any part of the club's compound for political purposes should be prohi

He said the Royal Turf Club is located in the Dusit district where the Internal Security Act (ISA) has been imposed, therefore, such rallies should be prohibited. The ISA, which was imposed by the government on Wednesday until August 10, covers three Bangkok districts, namely Dusit, Phra Nakhon and Pom Prap Sattru Phai.

General Boonlert Kaewprasit, secretary-general of the club, confirmed the prohibition, saying the club had been heavily scrutinised after the major rally led by him last year.

Thaikorn Polsuwan, a leader of People’s Army to Overthrow the Thaksin Regime, previously known as Pitak Siam, said the group would find a public place such as a public park or a closed area like a stadium, to hold its political rally.
