Stimulus measures to boost GDP as planned

The economy this year could expand by 5-5.5 per cent this year thanks to the four stimulus measures approved recently by the Cabinet, said Fiscal Policy Office director-general Somchai Sajjapongse.

The office now pens the 4.5-5 per cent growth rate. The government is confident that the four measures would boost the GDP by 1 percentage point.
He expected supplementary measures to be announced within the next 1-2 months. Tax-related measures should be the first.
He noted that global uncertainties heavily hurt Thailand's export, and export growth could be as small as 3-4 per cent this year. However, border trade would show a double-digit growth rate, particularly along the borders with Laos, Myanmar and Cambodia.
