Germany backs de-mining along Cambodian border

Germany has continued to support de-mining operations on the Thai-Cambodian border via APOPO, a Belgian non-governmental organisation.

APOPO (a Flemish acronym that translates to Anti-Personnel Landmines Detection Product Development), which works closely with the Thailand Mine Action Centre, says on its website that 650 landmines were found and “neutralised” under its Thailand programme.
Germany began giving support to APOPO clearance activities for areas along the Thai-Cambodian border last year.
Recently, German Ambassador to Thailand Rolf Schulze signed a contract with Kim Warren, the programme manager of APOPO Thailand and Cambodia, to provide 281,000 euros (Bt11.7 million) for a survey of the Thai-Cambodian border, to tackle mine problems there.
