Turbulence injures 20 on THAI flight

Thai Airways International's Flight TG600, bound for Hong Kong, experienced air turbulence this morning.

Initially, twenty persons including a crew member were injured, said Chokchai Panyayong, THAI executive for commercial operations.
In a statement, he said that the flight, operated by Airbus A380-800 , departed from Suvarnabhumi Airport at 8.16am, carrying 500 passengers, two pilots, and 24 cabin attendants.
As the aircraft was descending to Chek Lap Kok Airport, Hong Kong, an unforeseen turbulence occurred, causing injury to 20 passengers and cabin attendants, according to initial reports.  Thereafter, despite the turbulence, the pilots safely landed the aircraft, with the THAI’s ground customer services staff at Chek Lap Kok Airport and Hong Kong International Airport Authority staff immediately transporting the injured to hospital.
All other passengers proceeded through the passenger terminal arrivals hall at Chek Lap Kok Airport according to normal arrival procedures and formalities.
"THAI regrets this unforeseen weather occurrence and will tend to medical expenses of all passengers and staff who were injured," he said.
Transport Minister Chadchart Sittipunt, also expressed concern and emphasised that THAI take care of those injured.
