Bt270bn approved for rice scheme

The Cabinet on Tuesday approved the budget of Bt270 billion to finance the rice-pledging scheme in the 2013/2014 harvest year.
In the harvest year, the government fixes the pledging prices at Bt15,000 per tonne for rice harvested in the first crop and Bt13,000 for the second crop.
It also approved the corn subsidy, setting the buying price at Bt9 per kg.
