Former singer Pornpan "Joyce Triumph Kingdom" Rattanamethanon was released yesterday after the Supreme Court cut her sentence to eight years and one month in jail and a fine of Bt340,000 for possession of illegal drugs with the intent to sell.
The 32-year-old singer’s relatives paid the fine and she was released later yesterday.
Pornpan and her boyfriend Jitpat Sungkhasuwan, 33, were arrested with 4,040 yaba pills on November 23, 2004, as part of a police sting.
In 2005, the Primary Court sentenced Pornpan to eight years and one month in prison plus a Bt340,000 fine, while Jitpat received a jail term of 33 years and four months plus a Bt800,000 fine. However, in 2007, the Appeals Court changed her sentenced to 33 years and five months in jail and increased the fine to Bt800,000 while Jitipat’s sentence remained the same.
Although the Supreme Court reduced Pornpan’s sentence, Jitpat’s sentence was unchanged.
