ISA invoked in Bangkok's three districts

The government invokes the Internal Security Act in three Bangkok districts as a precaution to ensure peace around Government House, Deputy Prime Minister Pracha Promnok said on Wednesday.

Pracha was speaking ahead of an urgent meeting of relevant ministers to endorse the security enforcement in Bangkok's Dusit, Pomprap Sattru Phai and Phra Nakhon. The enforcement would be enforced from today to October 18.
He said he had already informed Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra who is attending Asean Summit in Brunei.
The government's decision came after talks had failed to convince protesters to evacuate their rally site ahead of the Friday's visit of Chinese Premier Li Keqiang.

National Security Council Secretary General Paradorn Pattanathabutr admitted that the decision to enforce the ISA in Bangkok had something to do with a warning by former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra that there would be a conspiracy to topple the government in October.
Paradorn said the security agencies had assessed the situation and believed that the government opponents would prolong their protests.
