Weak evidence attributed to dropping Thaksin's terrorism charge

Former attorney general Chulasingh Vasantasingh cited weak evidence as reason not to prosecute former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra, his successor Athapol Yaisawang said on Thursday.

The Department of Special Investigation had submitted its reports related to terrorism charges involving Thaksin and red-shirt leaders in connection with the 2010 political violence.

Athapol said prosecutors reviewed charges against Thaksin as a separate case because the accused was a fugitive.

Chulasingh had the sole purview to decide whether to try Thaksin because the alleged offence happened outside the country.
