Judge Theerawat nominated for EC post

The Supreme Court yesterday nominated Senior Judge Theerawat Theerarojwit for a position on the Election Commission. He is the second court candidate nominated for the five-member EC.
Last month, the high court nominated Senior Judge Supachai Somcharoen, a former president of the Region 1 Appeals Court. During the first round of voting, Supachai was the only judge who got the 50-per-cent vote required for EC candidature.
Meanwhile, on Tuesday, the selection committee charged with selecting three new members for the commission chose former ombudsman Prawit Rattanapian; former deputy rector of Thammasat University Somchai Srisuthiyakorn; and senior judge Boonsong Noisophon as EC candidates. They were chosen to the fill the experts’ seats. The EC, which enters its new term, is composed of five members – two from the Supreme Court judiciary and three selected by a special selection panel.
