Apple unveils iPad Air

San Francisco - Apple unveiled a lighter, thinner model of its best selling iPad on Tuesday, calling the new device the iPad Air.

Apple marketing chief Phil Schiller said the new device features Apple's latest A7 chip, and is 20-per-cent thinner and 28-per-cent lighter than previous models, while still boasting the same 9.7-inch Retina display.
The device goes on sale in the United States and most other major markets on November 1, starting at 499 dollars, and will be available in silver, black or space grey.
Apple announced an update to its iPad Mini, which will now feature a high-definition Retina display as well as the same A7 chip shared with its big brother. It will be available later in November with a starting price of 399 dollars. Both new iPads boast improved cameras.//DPA
