It was among the gold medal prize winners from Asia announced at the November 13 event in Kuala Lumpur.
“The transformation into the digital media era is a challenge to all types of media companies,” said Suthichai Yoon, chairman of Nation Group. He noted that without such a transformation, failure is foreseeable.
Among prize winners of the 4th annual Asian Digital Media Awards are Singapore Press Holdings, South China Morning Post and Kompas. The awards recognise outstanding work in the fields of online media, online video, infographics, cross media, mobile publishing, tablet publishing, and social media, and were presented to more than 20 companies, individuals and publications in Asia-Pacific, South Asia and the Middle East. The selections were made by 29 international jury members of WANIFRA, which represents more than 18,000 publications, 15,000 online sites and over 3,000 companies in more than 120 countries.
To Nation Group, this award recognises the group’s vision in transforming itself for the digital age. In the past five years, Nation Group has been the leader in reporting through social media – which has become the fastest-growing and most influential medium. Through over 500 news crew, their Twitter accounts have drawn over 3 million followers. The group’s Facebook pages have also attracted over 1 million “likes”.
Carried out under the “Power of N” vision, the digital channels have spread news to all – everywhere and at any time. They have won high public recognition, thanks to the group’s commitment to accuracy throughout its 43 years of existence.
The group’s news crew and employees are committed to communicating fast and accurate reports through social media, and to deploying social media in their daily work. For example, Suthichai’s interview of former prime minister Abhisit Vejjajiva via social media was the first of its kind in Thailand.
Presenting multimedia news reports in multiple platforms and multiple channels reflects the group’s commitment to take firm root in the digital media age.
Through training, our news crew is acquainted with reporting through print media, social media, websites, mobile phones and television. These “mobile journalists” uphold news value for consumers, regardless of the news channel. They are bound to ethical standards under the “Nation Way” manual. Nation Group is also the first Thai media company to enforce a social-media reporting manual.
