Protest cover for tourists under TAT policy

Tourism and Sports Minister Somsak Pureesrisak yesterday said he would ask the Cabinet to amend the regulations of the Bt50-million Tourist Fund to cover those affected or injured during the current protest.

He said the ministry also had a Bt180 million-per-year insurance policy to pay in case tourists have accidents or suffer from chaos. In case of death or disability it would pay US$10,000 for deaths, plus up to $10,000 for injuries, and from $100 to $10,000 for being unable to leave the country. The Tourism Authority of Thailand would also put up a Web blog for private tourism companies to update foreigners planning to visit about the situation here.
