Bomb at customs checkpoint in Narathiwat injures soldier, civilian

A soldier and a civilian were injured yesterday morning when a 5-kilogram home-made bomb went off near Taba customs checkpoint in Narathiwat's Tak Bai district.

Police believe the attack was related to unrest in the region.
The bomb was detonated around 10.15am, as people were passing through the checkpoint. Soldiers were providing additional security at the checkpoint over the New Year festival period. The blast injured Master Sergeant First Class Montri Songsriboonsit, 40, and Jehsani Jehwae, 56.
Later, another bomb blast occurred in Yala’s Raman district at 1.15pm, but no one was injured. In Yala’s Bannang Sata district at 2.35pm, a bomb targeting a security patrol was also detonated, but again no one was hurt.
