The consumption of electricity in Thailand hit a record high on Wednesday, registering at 26,942.1 megawatts, which was more than last year's highest consumption recorded at 26,598.1 megawatts.

“Thailand’s power consumption has been growing by between 4 and 5 per cent per year,” Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (Egat) corporate-communication director Tatree Riewcharoen said at a seminar in Krabi yesterday.
He also pointed out that the South did not have adequate power supply and needed contributions from the Central region.
According to him, the facilities in the South only have the capacity to produce 2,300MW per day, while daily power demand in the region stands at 2,543MW.
