Party executives and key members including Noppadon Pattama, legal adviser to fugitive former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra, said the verdict was unfair.
Noppadon quoted Thaksin’s comment that the legal complaint was directed only at Yingluck, so the court should not have broadened its consideration to the other Cabinet members. The ministers had also deserved more chances to defend themselves.
In disqualifying Yingluck, the court said the Cabinet members who actively supported the illegal transfer of Thawil Pliensri from the National Security Council could not stay in their posts either.
But Trakoon Meechai, a political scientist at Chulalongkorn University, and Jade Donavanik, a legal expert with Siam University, agreed that the judicial branch had acted properly, in line with the system of checks and balances.
In Chiang Mai, about 150 red shirts rallied in front of City Hall to protest against the court’s judgement.
