ImangiStudios, based in the US state of North Carolina, said that its largest market was in China, where 36 per cent of its audience resides. The company said that 60 per cent of its players were female.
The object of the game is to get away with a priceless idol that the player's character steals from a temple. The character then must start running while being chased by demonic monkeys and dodging other obstacles such as tree roots and fire-breathing gargoyles. The game ends when the player falls off the temple or is eaten by the monkeys.
The studio said that players have played over 32 billion games since the franchise was launched by husband and wife developer team Keith Shepherd and Natalia Luckyanova in 2008 and that players have run a total of 50 trillion metres.
