The ministry has demanded compensation of Bt536,986 for damage caused after then-PDRC chief Suthep – now known as Phra Suthep – led protesters into its premises. It is also seeking Bt500,000 for every month the PDRC protested at the ministry and 7.5 per cent interest.
Suthep’s lawyer said the summons was sent to Suthep’s home in Surat Thani, while he led the rally in Bangkok and he did not receive it. The next hearing is set for September 29.
Meanwhile, Democrat leader Abhisit Vejjajiva and Phra Suthep went to Criminal Court yesterday to face a hearing for cases in which they were accused over the crackdown on red-shirt protests in 2010.
Abhisit and Suthep asked the court to decide if the Department of Special Investigation had the authority to investigate their cases because they were accused of malfeasance. The court will resume its examination of evidence and witnesses on August 28.
