Ruangkrai Leekijwattana, a legal official for the Pheu Thai Party said he suspected members of the Prayuth Cabinet, including PM Prayuth Chan-ocha, have multiple roles and responsibilities that may overlap or conflict with one another.
He said although the interim charter allowed Prayuth to continue as National Council for Peace and Order chief even though he has assumed the premier’s post, the general should uphold the principle of separation of power.
Mahidol University Research Centre for Peace director Gothom Arya said some ministers may have their hands full, such as Health Minister Dr Rajata Rajatanavin, because he also works full time as Mahidol University rector.
The Council of University Presidents of Thailand (CUPT) had also assigned the Mahidol University rector to conduct research on how to reform the country’s education system.
Gothom said he was not worried that the reform work of the university would be adversely affected because Rajata only assigned researchers to carry out the research, but he was concerned about the university’s work since the rector post is a full-time job.
PM’s Office permanent secretary ML Panadda Diskul said he could and was willing to handle two jobs at the same time.
However, he has resigned as vice chairman of MCOT after being royally endorsed as a Prime Minister’s Office Minister.
