Army plans to reclaim state land in Ubon, Loei and Udon

The Army Region 2 is eyeing the option of reclaiming state land from 'encroachers' in Ubon Ratchathani, Loei and Udon Thani.

The targeted areas include 1,600 rai (256 hectares) on the bank of the Mun River in Ubon Ratchathani province, some 10,000 rai in Phu Rua forest in Loei province and 1,000 rai in the Nam Som-Nayung forest in Ban Phue district of Udon Thani province.
The region’s working team, led by chief of staff Colonel Sommai Budsaba, insisted on proceeding with their operation despite being subjected to threats.
Sommai said yesterday that his team had received a threat last month as they were trying to retrieve military land in Pak Chong in Nakhon Ratchasima. The 330 rai in Khao Nong Chuam, a mountain in Khanong Phra sub-district, had reportedly been claimed by some influential individuals, including a couple of senior police officers and a university lecturer.
