Ovec to look into fatal initiation trip
The director of the Pathum Thani Technical College will face a disciplinary probe related to his alleged failure to prevent an unsupervised initiation trip, which saw one of the college students succumb to respiratory and blood-circulation failure.
Pokai Saengrojrat, 17, a first-year student, died late last month.
The Office of Vocational Education Commission (Ovec) set up a fact-finding committee to look into the incident. The committee suggested there were grounds to believe the college’s director Kwanchai Panichakarn had been negligent.
Ovec secretary-general Chaiprug Sereerak said yesterday Kwanchai should have investigated what happened when a class-attendance report showed only 10 students remained in the classroom on the day of the trip .
If convicted of negligence or minor disciplinary offences, Kwanchai will face a warning, or a one-time salary cut or a long-term salary reduction.
