List of provincial NRC nominees set to be given to junta

NATIONAL Reform Council (NRC) selection committees in all provinces are expected to reveal their selected candidates today, Election Commission (EC) secretary-general Puchong Nutrawong said yesterday.

Each committee, due to meet today, will select five nominees to present to the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) for consideration.

But the EC official admitted that committees for all 11 categories except the political sector, which will also meet today, may not be able to shortlist the required 50 candidates in each category to present to the NCPO before September 22.

Puchong said a few more meetings were needed before the |committee could achieve that |task as there were many applicants.

The NPCO has instructed the committees to keep the list of selected candidates confidential to prevent any repercussions.

The director of the Provincial Election Commission for every province, who serves as the secretary to the provincial NRC selection committees, has been asked to submit selection results to the Election Commission, which will reveal the results to the NCPO.

The EC is also forbidden from revealing the names.

Puchong said the EC had made progress in checking the qualification of nominees, with just 20 per cent still to be checked.

He said if the checking process was not completed in time, candidates would be asked to verify their qualifications in writing. If a candidate lied, they would face action from the NCPO.
