Air Force chief pushes for Asean search-rescue centre

Air Force commander Air Chief Marshal Prajin Juntong proposed the setting up of an Asean search-and-rescue centre at the 11th Asean Air Chiefs Conference in Nay Pyi Taw yesterday. Myanmar Air Force chief ACM Khin Aung Myint chaired the meeting.

Referring to search-and-rescue missions, Prajin said Asean had to be aware that aircraft that went missing or crashed had an impact on regional security, air transport and eventually prosperity.
Hence, he said, Thailand was pushing for the establishment of an Asean search-and-rescue centre.
Prajin added that the project could begin by setting up a committee and working group to decide on the structure of the centre.
He also proposed that the air forces of Asean countries exchange visits among their international coordinators annually to build an integrated database, follow up on developing concerns and enhance regional rescue capacity in cases of air and other disasters.
