After the meeting, NACC secretary-general Sansern Poljiak said the commission voted to forward impeachment cases to the NLA as per Article 64 of the Corruption Act and the 2014 provisional charter, which states that the NLA acts as the Senate as well as the House of Representatives.
The NACC had earlier forwarded recommendations for the impeachment of former Parliament president Somsak Kiatsuranon and former Parliament vice president Nikom Wairatpanich to the Senate before it was dissolved after the May 22 coup. The pair was found guilty of violating the Constitution by pushing for an amendment of the 2007 charter on the make-up of the Senate.
However, the NLA returned these cases back to the NACC on Monday, saying the charges were based on the already defunct 2007 Constitution.
“Yet we unanimously agreed to forward the two cases back to the NLA [for impeachment],” Sansern said.
The anti-graft body has also decided to go ahead with the impeachment of Yingluck, who was found guilty of dereliction of duty in relation to the rice-pledging scheme, and 39 ex-senators who voted to amend the 2007 charter to have a fully elected Senate, plus other political post holders.
